We survived the first frost. We reveled in the glee of the first snow. And our city stood in solidarity unafraid, unhindered by the botched pipe bomb that went off this morning.
There are no words. Our city is not the first to be inflicted with terrorism, and we will not be the last. Hatred reigns everywhere, showing itself in varying degrees of differing opinions. It sparks a peaceful revolution, hostile takeover, and ongoing war.
Like every generation before me, I wonder if I will witness world peace in my lifetime. With every passing day, our world leaders use their platform to further a conflicted agenda, undoing motions of reform and progress. I wonder still if it is possible.
In this age, it is naive to believe that altruism leads the heart of the free world. Even as I type those words, I know there is something much deeper at play. And I pray for us all.
